The US City of Greenville is to receive a $40m investment into bringing fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) directly to residents.

The programme is part of a partnership with network provider, MetroNet, which will be responsible for building the network that will bring fibre optic internet, TV, and phone services to the city.

Construction is planned to commence in Spring, and MetroNet will have a storefront in Greenville to serve as the command centre for customer service and sales. 

P.J. Connelly, mayor of Greenville commented: ‘This announcement is a game-changer for the City of Greenville. As our city continues to grow, it is vital that we are able to provide fast, reliable, and affordable fibre optic options. At no time has that been more apparent than during the Covid-19 pandemic as virtual learning and remote work made the need for increased broadband access even more apparent.’

John Cinelli, president at MetroNet added: ‘We are excited to be expanding to Greenville, North Carolina, and the opportunities that this means for the community. Residents and businesses will be able to experience a future-proofed network and we are proud to move forward together with this market, which is positioned well for growth. We can’t thank the Mayor and the Council enough for the invitation.

Cinelli also advised that MetroNet anticipates the network build to take approximately 24 months.
